VIVA RIVA
Recently watched the film VIVA RIVA and i loved it! an action movie set in Kinshasa, the dialogue is well written and the plot is saved from predictability by the sheer shock of some of the scenes. The best part - it's Afican! Usually internationally acclaimed African films have a serious ( read morose) heartfelt message. Whilst im not saying this film doesnt have a message i never felt like it was preaching rather just telling the story of fated Riva. The movie has it all- love, betrayal, sex, violence, friendship and redemption. if you want to be entertained catch it at a ster kinekor near you.
ps - it is in french and lingala so unless you're fluent you will be reading subtitles. dont let this deter you watch it!
check out the trailer here http://www.vivariva.co.za/

All i want to know is...
Why do the big girls almost always get the upclose potrait picture whenever they are put on a magazine cover? Can their bodies not be clothed and photographed to a sufficiently satisfying degree so as to create a beautiful cover or is that beyond the realm of capablilities of the stylists/photographers/magazines? Just asking.
P.s Gabby's Dad is apparently Senegalese so you can go ahead and pronounce her surname with the African intonation you initially used when you first saw her surname but resisted doing once you learned she was American.

WALE'S ELEVEN ONE ELEVEN THEORY
In anticipation of the release of his latest album "Ambition" Wale released a mixtape entitled the "eleven one eleven theory".
11.1.11 , as in 1 November 2011, is the date his album is being released. The Mixtape contains some classic's - "varsity blues", "passive-agress her" and "fairy tales" to name a few. You know the mixtape is good when it causes Hulkshare to crash! You can download it via Life and Times here.
I like Wale because he is more of a poet than a rapper and he is definitely better than alot of these average "money, cars and hoes" rappers. His word play is crazy. if you ever have some time check out his lyrics on rap genius.com im betting that you will be pleasantly surprized.
One of my favourites is "diary" off his last album Attention Deficit.
Wale will also be on tour soon. States only though. No Bueno.

JEAN MICHEL BASQUAIT
From graffiti street artist to world renowned expressionist artist. Jean Michel Basquait artwork is raw and thought provoking. Every corner of his canvass leads to another conversation on race, politics, society etc. Gone too soon.

ADELE COVERS VOGUE
Adele covers the October issue of Vogue UK. If you have not already, get a copy of her album 21. It's Amazing. The lyrics alone are enough to win me over but combine that with deceptively simply melodies and harmonies and soon her album becomes the soundtrack to your life. Definitely one of 2011's defining albums. Adele also has an great sense of style and always seems to be photographed in her trademark black. Check out her style file also over at Vogue Uk. A few of the pictures below.
